In Defence of the Silly

Life occasionally demands that we act seriously —
and I demand that life allows me to act silly 100% of the time it doesn’t.

I wrote this poem as a kind of gentle manifesto.
A reminder to protect your inner child.
To let them out — to laugh, to dance, to bloom.

Hang your spoon up from your nose,
Wiggle your fingers, hips, and your toes.

Be brave enough to strike a pose,
And show them how your spirit glows.

Protect your inner most delicate rose,
Especially when your body grows.

Your stem will stretch in search of light,
And climb to a place of wondrous height.

Buds will grow and new colours loom,
On fragrant petals soon to bloom.

The bees will come,
And the honey will be sweet.

Remember to always,
move your feet.

And while you bathe in the vibrant rays,
I will bask in the warmest swathes.

In the light of your dance,
And effortless prance.

In the innocence of a childlike romance.
